EUGENE L. ROBINSON "POPS"
Eugene Lincoln Robinson was born on February 12, 1924 in Chicago, IL to Andrew and Roberta Robinson. He had three siblings: Mattie, Robert Earl, and Etta. He graduated from Chicago's DuSable High School, class of 1943, before honorably serving his country with the U.S. Navy. At 26, Eugene married the love of his life, Dorothy Frances (Rimmer) Robinson from St. Louis, MO. To this union two children were born: Marvin and Barry, and two secured by love, Arnold and Joseph. As a civilian, Eugene dedicated 32 years of service as a welder to General Motors Corporation before retiring to Bitely, MI where he and his wife, Dorothy, founded a camp for troubled youth, The Woodsman's Outpost. Eugene Robinson dedicated his life as a faithful servant to God and his fellow man. He served as an adult Bible study teacher and Deacon to Brohman Bible Baptist Church in Brohman, MI and later to New Bible Baptist Church, in Gary, IN. Eugene Robinson departed this life on Thursday, April 3, 2014 to be with his Heavenly Father. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Rimmer) Robinson; four sons: Marvin (Veleda), Barry (Jewel) and Arnold Robinson, and Joseph (Cynthia) Rice; eight grandchildren: Katina (Jeffrey) Varner, Brian (Tammy), Eric (Deanna), Matthew, Eugene "Skookie" II (deceased), Dionndra, and Barry Robinson Jr., Ronnie, Aaron and Jamia Rice; 18 great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation at Smith Bizzell and Warner Funeral Home, 4209 Grant Street, Gary, IN on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM with family hour from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral service at New Bible Baptist Church, 301 S. Grand Blvd, Gary with Pastor K.C. Thompson presiding. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL following the service.
