DR. GEORGE T. JANCOSEK WHITING, IN
Dr. George T. Jancosek, 81, of Whiting passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 following a brave battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He is survived by his sister, Jane (Jancosek) Curosh; his son, Mark Jancosek (fiancee Stacy Broutman); daughter, Gina (Jancosek) Vitucci (son-in-law, Billy); his beloved grandchildren: Alex, Melina, Helena, Luiza, Camille and Chloe; many dear nieces, nephews and cousins of the Jancosek, Bercik, and Curosh families. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, JoAnn (Dudzik) Jancosek; son, Joseph; parents: Andrew and Theresa (Wagner) Jancosek; brothers: Andrew, John, Joseph and Thomas; sisters: Anna and Mary (Jancosek) Bercik. George graduated as president of his senior class at Whiting High School. He attended Indiana University School of Dentistry before earning his masters in Orthodontics from Farleigh Dickenson University. He grew his practice to three offices, but never turned down a family if they could only pay a little or couldn’t finish paying. George served to honorable discharge as a captain in the U.S. Army in Korea, where he was stationed in a M.A.S.H. Unit. George retired after 30 years of orthodontic practice. He continued to serve his community as 1st District Councilman in the City of Hammond for 12 consecutive years. A longtime parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, George served faithfully as a lector, altar server and on the parish council. George was a world traveler, avid tennis player, dedicated dumpster diver, tinkerer, auto mechanic and all around fix-it guy. Most of all, he was a wonderful husband; a loving, humorous, kind father; and attentive “Papa Doc” to his six grandchildren. George will ever be remembered for his wit, dry humor, practical honesty and his gentle, generous, giving nature. Many a stranger’s life was impacted by George’s generosity. He taught us how to laugh, how to endure difficulty and how to love. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. A Memorial Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th St., and Lincoln Ave., Whiting, with the Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S., officiating. www.baranfh.com (219) 659-4400.
