HENRY E. WEGRZYN VALPARAISO, IN Henry Edward Wegrzyn, age 86 of Valparaiso, IN passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, June 12, 2014. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Harriet Wegrzyn; son David (Annette) Wegrzyn of Omaha, NE; and daughter Carol (Kenneth) Wrobel of St. John, IN. He was a devoted grandfather of Lynn Wegrzyn of Piscataway, NJ; and Lara Wegrzyn of Omaha, NE; and two step grandchildren, Andrew and Amanda Sutherland, both of Omaha, NE. Henry attended Emerson High School and graduated with honors from Indiana University with a B.S. and M.S. degrees in education. He served in the U.S. Army as a weapons instructor at Fort Ord, CA during the Korean War and enjoyed his lifelong profession as a teacher of U.S. History at Horace Mann High School (Gary, IN) and Portage Township Schools (Portage, IN) for 34 years. Henry retired in 1990. He was a skilled carpenter, designing and building his first home by hand and thoroughly enjoyed all forms of woodworking. Henry was an avid fisherman and loved family vacations that also included camping, boating and swimming. Per Henry's wishes, his remains have been sent to the Indiana University School of Medicine where he will conclude his teaching career.
