HELEN MICHALIK GARY, IN Helen Michalik, 92, passed away February 14, 2014. She was born in Czechoslovakia to Stefan and Anna (Skalik) Bistransky. Helen immigrated to the USA at the age of one year. At the time of her passing, she was residing in Bryan, TX. Since 2008, Helen had been dividing her time between Texas with her daughter, and Ogden Dunes, IN with her son. She graduated as Salutatorian from Froebel High School in Gary and attended Indiana University in later life studying geology. Helen and her husband owned Glen Park Florists in Gary for many years. She enjoyed rock and mineral collecting, and was an avid bird watcher. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jean (Gigi) and rob Foster of Bryan, TX; son, Ken Mihalik of Ogden Dunes, IN; grandchildren: Grant Rizzo, Marc Mihalik, Matthew Mihalik, and Michelle Mihalik Morgan; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Eugene Michalik; and brothers: Steve and John Bistransky. Funeral services took place privately in Texas. Interment will take place at a later date in Merrillville, IN.
