James W. Brown, age 76, of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2012. He was born July 4, 1936 in South Bend, IN to Paul M. and Helen R. (Miller) Brown. Jim was raised in the Knox County town of Bicknell, IN and graduated from Edwardsport and Sandborn High Schools. He received his Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Development from Purdue University and his Master's degree in Community Development from the University of Louisville. Jim's career was spent in community service and development with the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service. He was a member of the Indiana Extension Agent's Association, the National Association of County Agricultural Agents, Alpha Lamda Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Chi and a charter member of the Indiana Community Development Society. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a charter member of the Morgan Township Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of Valparaiso Baptist Church. On December 28, 1958 in Knox Co., IN he married Judith Volle, who survives, along with two sons: Jerry (Erlinda) of Fort Wayne and Jeff of Markle, IN; one granddaughter, Delaney; three brothers: Robert, Norman and Lee; and one sister, Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 3:00- 7:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Valparaiso Baptist Church, 612 Emmettsburg Ave. with Pastor Robert Liedtke officiating. Burial will take place on Saturday at 2:30 PM EST at Bethel Cemetery in Freelandville, IN. Memorials may be made to Gideon's International. Moellerfuneralhome.com
