JEFFERY A. MARTIN CROWN POINT, IN
Jeffery A. Martin, age 70 of Crown Point, formerly of Munster, passed away January 12, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. After graduating from Hammond High School in 1960, Jeff earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana State University and a Master of Arts degree from Purdue University. Jeff’s passion for literature led to a 37 year career as a teacher of English literature at Thornton Fractional South High School in Lansing, IL. Jeff also served as a yearbook advisor and cross country running coach at the school. Known for his expertise in astronomy and astrophotography, Jeff was a member of the Calumet Astronomical Society and served as the editor of its monthly newsletter. Jeff was also a 20 year member and former president of the Crown Point Lions Club. An audiophile with extensive knowledge of jazz, Jeff enjoyed attending the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Mackinac Jazz Festival, and other jazz events. He was a season subscriber to the Shakespeare and Goodman Theaters in Chicago and a member of the Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago. Reflecting Jeff’s enthusiasm for fitness and sense of fun, his other interests included cycling, golf, fishing, and flying remote controlled airplanes. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Martin; father, Charles Martin; first wife, Marie Martin; and sister-in- law, Jan Martin. He is survived by his wife, Jane Rouge Martin; son Bryan Martin; brother, Gregory Martin; stepson, Matt Rouge; and stepdaughter, Emily Rouge. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 17, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN with Dr. David Wood officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Burns Funeral Home prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Crown Point Community Foundation. www.burnsfuneral.com
