PHILIP JAMES "JIM" LA MANTIA Jim La Mantia, 70, of Munster, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, IL. Jim is survived by one daughter, Marcia LeVan; four grandchildren: David La Mantia, Dylan, Melody, and Taylor LeVan; one sister, Gloria (John) Harkins; two brothers: Dan (Neddie) Whitlatch, and Thomas Whitlatch; numerous family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Philip N. La Mantia and Dorothea Whitlatch; his brother, Guy "Butch" Whitlatch; and his beloved daughter, Nancy La Mantia. A respected music teacher, he will be remembered most for his cultivating fine musicians, as well as his sharp sense of humor. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 4:00 at the hall of St. Maria Goretti, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, IN. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to or Merit School of Music http://meritmusic.org.
