John T. Pierotti, age 81, of Valparaiso, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013. He was born February 12, 1932 in Wickhaven, PA to Silvio and Edna Pierotti and graduated from Perry & Lower Tyrone High School in Perryopolis, PA. John was a corporal and squad leader of the Baker company with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After close competition with several unit men, he received the honor of general's orderly. To paraphrase from the 38th Infantry "News of the Rock of the Manre": The nomination of Cpl. Pierotti as general's orderly is not only a reflection upon his character, but also a tribute to him as a soldier and a member of the "Rock of the Marne" regiment. John retired as a Turn Foreman from U.S. Steel with 38 years of service in the Sheet Finishing End. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah, the V.F.W. Post #988 and the Elks Lodge in Valparaiso. John will be fondly remembered for the joy he took in singing, dancing, carpentry and driving his golf cart and his passionate support of the Pittsburgh Steelers. On October 1, 1960, John married Joann Borri who survives along with their children: Kevin (Debbie) Pierotti of Valparaiso, Valerie (Greg) McNamara of Avon, IN, siblings: Marie, Pete, Pauline, Adeline, Marlene, Joan and Jean and grandchildren: Sabrina Pierotti, Celeste and Grace McNamara. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Silvio. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m. directly at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 202 N. Ohio St., Wanatah with burial to follow at Angelcrest Cemetery. Visitation Friday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso and Saturday from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent Depaul Society.
