Jonas Oliver Caton, 59, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Jonas was born May 27, 1954 in North Charleroi, Pennsylvania, the son of Jonas Thomas Caton and Flora Belle (Harris) Caton. Jonas retired after 30 years of service from the Valparaiso Fire Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran with Service with eight years and a member of the American Legion. On November 27, 1972, Jonas married Renee Anderson (Caton). Jonas and Renee have four children: Patricia Rife (Mike), Thomas Caton (Cynthia) (Sarah Dolph), Christina Keen (Anthony), Terry Caton (Angie Brown) (Cynthia Bunting. Jonas Oliver Caton is one of 13 children. There are six brothers and six sisters: Elizabeth L. Jones (Betty), Dorothy M. Earley (Deb), Louis H. Staley (Sonny), Bernice Borgesen (DiDi), Donald L. Staley (Lee), Jo-Anne E. Kinsfather, Thomas G. Caton (Tom), David W. Caton, Phyllis D. Edgecomb (Phyl), John E. Walker, James P. Walker (Jim) and Bonnie B. Walker. Preceded in death by parents: Jonas T. and Florabelle Walker (Caton); and stepfather, John A. Walker; sisters: Dorothy Earley, Elizabeth Jones, and Jo-Anne Kinsfather; brothers; Tom Caton, Louis Staley, and Donald Staley. Jonas has 11 grandchildren: Anthony, Jessica, Wesley, Victoria, Sierra, Triston, Conner, Cayden Miah, Steven. and Gage. Jonas has several loving nieces and nephews. Jonas is also survived by his brothers and sisters of the Valparaiso Fire Department. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at 2:00 PM until time of the Memorial Service at 3:00 PM at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St., Valparaiso with Pastor Mike Eddy officiating.
