LENORA DONNA "LEE" MARTINO (NEE CAPPELLANTI) DUNE ACRES, IN Lenora Donna "Lee" Martino (nee Cappellanti), age 84, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 20, 2013. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert S. Martino, M.D.; children: Robert S. (Marsha) Martino, Jr. of Chesterton and Leslie L. (David) Reckziegel of Westmount, QC (Canada); grandchildren: Alexis Martino of Chicago and Liam and Aidan Reckziegel of Westmount, QC (Canada); sisters- in-law: Antoinette Cappellanti of South Charleston, WV and Brenda Amos of Wichita Falls, TX; nephew, Jason Amos of Los Angeles, CA; and nieces: Jessica Amos of Los Angeles, CA, Ellen (Mark) Carbone of Charleston, WV, Laura (James) Barber of Charleston, WV, Amy (Douglas) Wolfe of Coopertino, CA, Pamela Martino of Clarksburg, WV, Nancy (Richard) Lloyd of Winchester, VA, and Lois (Jeffrey) Childers of Bridgeport, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents: Umberto and Elena Cappellanti; brother, Augustus Cappellanti; brother-in-law, Louis Martino, and sister-in- law, Eleanor Martino. Lenora was born on January 7, 1929 in Morgantown, WV. She married the love of her life, Robert S. Martino on May 22, 1954 in Morgantown. Both Lenora and Robert graduated from West Virginia University in Morgantown. For a period of time, Lenora taught at the West Virginia University School of Medicine and worked as a medical technologist at the university. She received advanced training for medical technology at Wayne State University in Michigan and additionally worked for several years as a medical technologist at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan and at the Armour Stockyards in Chicago. Following that, she spent most of her time as a homemaker and mother. She was involved in the Trade Winds Rehabilitation Center in Gary, as a volunteer for many years. Also for many years and up until her death, she was a member of the St. Mary Medical Center Hospital Guild. Lenora was an avid tennis player and professional tennis fan for many years and was a member of both Mansard (later Match Point) Racquet Club and Southlake Tennis Club. She was a "tennis mom" and overall, a beautiful, elegant, wonderful and devoted mother and grandmother. She was also a fantastic cook. Her red sauce and meatballs were the best! She and her husband were able to travel extensively and they saw the world together. Previously, she was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Merrillville and St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, also in Merrillville. She was, for many years and most recently, a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton. Visitation will be on Wednesday at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home in Chesterton, and funeral will be on Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton.
