LOUIS PAUL FRETER Louis Paul Freter, age 89, passed away January 11, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born on February 1, 1923 to Augusta and Louis Carl Freter in Chicago, IL. He had two older half brothers: Earl G. Rix and Elmer W. Rix, both of whom have preceded him in death. During WWII he served overseas in Belgium as a Sergeant in the US Army. After the war ended he enrolled at Northwestern University. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He enjoyed gardening and fishing with his brothers. After graduation he worked as a Purchasing Agent before deciding to open his own floral shop. He subsequently partnered with a talented floral designer; Harvey Hauke, and they opened Ivy Hill Florist and Gift Shop on the west side of Chicago. Both were active in the FTD for many years. They sold the business in 2001 and retired to Munster, IN. Louis and Harvey also had a retreat home in Morocco, IN consisting of 20 acres where they enjoyed gardening, fishing, feeding birds, deer, and wild turkeys. They enjoyed entertaining friends in this relaxing environment. Louis later donated the land to the Nature Conservancy. Louis is survived by his one remaining relative; his brother, Paul who saw to Louis's care in a nursing facility in his last days. Arrangements entrusted to Castle Hill Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held.
