MARY FLORENCE MCFADDEN WHITING, IN Mary Florence McFadden, 93 of Whiting passed away peacefully on Christmas morning, December 25, 2013 in Connecticut. She was the beloved wife for 47 years of the late James F. McFadden; loving mother of Mary Ann (C.J.) Gantz and James (Joan) McFadden; cherished grandmother of Jennifer (Brian) Leicht and Michael Gantz. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Helen Lee Muldoon. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 30, 2013 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Whiting with the Rev. Stanley J. Dominik, officiating; interment, St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond. Visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Mary Florence McFadden was born on October 9, 1920 in Whiting, IN, the daughter of Francis and Bess (Egan) Muldoon and was very proud to be a lifelong resident. She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church, Whiting and married James F. McFadden there on October 20, 1956. Mary Florence was a 1938 graduate of Whiting High School. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from the Chicago Teacher's College as well as graduate work from Northwestern University. Mary Florence taught in the Whiting Public School System for 15 years before retiring to raise a family. She returned to teaching several years later when Sacred Heart School recruited her back to her passion for elementary education. She remained there as a third grade teacher for many years. Mary Florence was a member of PEO Chapter AH, Beta Gamma Upsilon Sorority and the Whiting-Robertsdale Historical Society. Devoted to her family, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
