MAXIE BERNARD MORRIS NEW CHICAGO Maxie Bernard Morris, age 81, of New Chicago passed away Tuesday July 22, 2014 at the Porter Regional Hospital. Maxie was born April 17, 1933 in Philpot, Kentucky to the late Bernard and Audrey Mae (Pulliam) Morris. Maxie served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired as a Control Room Operator from NIPSCO after 32 years of service where he also worked as a Welder and a Gas Serviceman. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge #677 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, the Orak Shrine, and the St. John VFW. He served on the New Chicago Town Board for 20 years, 16 years as President. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eulene (Pelfrey) Morris of New Chicago, IN; 4 children, Janice (Dan) Wilson of Portage, IN; Bradley (Debbie) Morris of Mooresville, NC; Sherry Hall of New Chicago, IN; Valerie (Rick) Krementz of Lexington, KY; 2 sisters, Ruby Pulliam of Hawesville, KY; Violet (Paul) Justice of Centralia, WA; 12 grandchildren, Laurie (Tom), Kenneth (Edna) , Tammy (Dan), Michelle (Justin), Bradley (Emily), David (Tricia), Elizabeth (Jason), Stephanie, Brian, Maxie, Daniel, and Michael, and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Denford and Clinford "Shorty", one sister, Winford, and son-in-law, Tommy Hall. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Maxie's honor may be made to COINS for Alzheimers Trust (CART), PO Box 1196 Mooresville, NC 28115. Funeral services are Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Don Good officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
