Richard Eugene Redding, D.D.S., age 92 of Crown Point, passed away on July 11, 2013. He was an Alumnus of Northwestern University where he received his B.S and D.D.S. degrees. He was also a faculty member at Northwestern. He was a member of the American Dental Assoc., Indiana Dental, and Northwest Dental Societies. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crown Point where he also served as a Sunday School Teacher for adults and children. He was a past member of Crown Point Kiwanis where he served as editor of the Kiwanis Kimuni-Kay for 20 years, and a past member of Crown Point Rotary. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, WWII (1942-1945) and served as a dentist for the Navy during the Korean Conflict (1950-1952). He was a member of Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity in Dental School and was also a member of American Legion Post #20 in Crown Point. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Niksch Redding; and daughter and son-in-law: Anne and Patrick Chesnutt. He is survived by two daughters: Lauren (Fred) Weed of Brevard, NC and Elaine (Mark) Kolb of Valparaiso; son, Richard (Kelly) Redding of Crown Point; grandchildren: Richard Eric Redding, Alexander Steven Redding, Sarah Elaine Redding, and Emma Lee Redding, and Michael Chesnutt; great grandchildren: Tyler and Celina Chesnutt and Aubrey Miller-Redding; sister, Phyllis Mack; nieces: Nan Oresic and Kate Becker; and nephew, Robert Mack. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church 352 S. Main St., Crown Point with Rev. Mark Wilkins officiating.
