Richard L. Kobza, age 83, of Hobart, formerly of Gary, passed away on December 16, 2013. Rich was a member of the Lew Wallace Class of 1948 and graduated from Indiana University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Rich was a member of St. Bridget and Assumption Catholic Churches. He was employed with the Internal Revenue Service for 30 years and served as Clerk Treasurer for the City of Hobart for 12 years. Rich was a statistician for the Hobart football program for many years and also coached youth basketball and little league. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eleanor; and his brothers: Frank and John. Rich is survived by his three sons: Richard, Jr. (Kim), David, and Bob (Kathy); six grandchildren: Josh (Renee) Miracle, Cally, Robert, Jr., Carl, Kelsie and Jacob Kobza; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 20, 2013 beginning with prayers at 9:15 a.m. from Burns Funeral Home, 701 East 7th Street, Hobart, and proceeding to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 3530 Illinois Street, Hobart, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Lourdu Pasala officiating. Interment in Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Friends are invited to meet with Rich’s family on Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home.
