STANLEY T. SKRENTNY HIGHLAND, IN Stanley T. Skrentny, age 81, of Highland, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 18, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie; four children: Sue (Skip) Claussen of Trail Creek, IN, Steve Skrentny of Apopka, FL, Jane (John) Wallace of St. John, IN, and John (Minh) Skrentny of San Diego, CA; grandchildren: Christine, Kevin, Kyle, Alayna, and Camryn; sisters-in-law: Valerie (Bernie) Holicky, and Betty Fitzgerald; cousin, Stacey Greenberger, and Manya Pleva; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Fagen Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave., St. John, IN with Reverend Edward Moszur, officiating. Friends may meet with the family at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Stan served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then graduated and received a J.D. from Indiana University and pursued a career in labor relations. Stan was elected and served as president of the first Town of Highland School Board. He was a lover of books and volunteered regularly at the Highland Library. Stan was an elegant man with a dry wit, whose unique sense of humor was on display until the very end. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Smile Train or the Wounded Warriors.
