Thomas LeRoy Peyton, age 77, of Dyer passed away October 9, 2013. He was born on March 27, 1936 in Indianapolis, IN and grew up in Clayton, IN. Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Bruno); sons: Jeff, Brian (Jackie), Tim (Teresa), and Dan (Jessica); daughter, Julie (Mike) Min; grandchildren: Amber (Dustin) Bator, Andrea Peyton, Peyton and Michael Min, Jillian Peyton, and Lauren Peyton; great grandchildren: Addison Bator, and Isabella DeBoer; sisters: Linda (Leland) Cooper, Barbara (Ed) Winks-Fewell; brothers- in-law: Ray (Marian) Bruno, Mario (Evelyn) Bruno; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents: Lee and Gretchen Peyton; daughter, Tommie Lynn, and grandson, Cody Peyton; brothers-in-law: Mike (Terry) Bruno and Bud Winks. Tom received his Bachelor's Degree from DePauw University and his Master's Degree from Indiana University. He taught for 33 years in the Lake Central School Corporation. Tom coached several sports, including freshman football, cross country, girls and boys golf, tennis, and JV and Varsity boys and girls basketball. He led Lake Central's boys basketball team to their first sectional title in 1970. Tom retired in 1991 after serving as Athletic Director for Lake Central for six years. He taught his family to enjoy the outdoors - camping, fishing, snow skiing, and golfing. Tom continued to support the Lake Central athletic events by attending football and basketball games. He was an avid Bobby Knight and IU basketball fan. He enjoyed playing bridge with friends and dancing with his wife. Visitation will be held Friday, October 11, 2013 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave., St. John, IN. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville, IN.
