VIRGIL O. NAUMANN VALPARAISO,IN Virgil O. Naumann, age 86, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013. He was born on March 21, 1927 in Rolette, ND to George and May Alice (Vogler) Naumann. Virgil served in the U.S. Navy, and then received his BA from the University of Montana, Missoula. He earned his MA and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. From 1955 to 1963, he worked at Jersey Production Research Co. in Tulsa, OK. Dr. Naumann joined the physics faculty at Valparaiso University in 1964 and taught until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served both the church and school in various capacities. On June 9, 1984 in Valparaiso, Virgil married Bonnie Hanson Brault, who survives, along with stepson, Mark (Maggie) Brault of Valparaiso; daughter-in-law, Jan (Paul) Shelby of LaPorte; two granddaughters: June and Cassey; siblings: Ralph (Rena) Naumann, Jean (Dale) Fredenberg, and Liz Jones all of Kalispell, MT, George (Eleanor) Naumann of Bigfork, MT and Carl (Ellen) Naumann of Reno, NV; cousin, Laura Rutherford of Whitefish, MT; special sister-in-law, Pam Hanson of Ashkum, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Nancy Herrin; and one brother, John Naumann. Visitation will be Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 N. Monticello Park Dr., Valparaiso. The funeral service will be held there on Monday at 10:00 AM with Pastor Steve Driver officiating. Burial will take place at Ashkum Cemetery, Ashkum, IL.
