KEEGAN--Albert F. Jr. MD, died Sunday morning at the age of 87 following a long and hard-fought battle with inclusion body myositis. Born to Albert F. Keegan and Veronica Keegan on August 13, 1926, Keegan enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served in the Medical Corps. He graduated from Columbia University in 1949 and received his MD from the State University of New York's College of Medicine in 1953. He was married in 1954 to Margaret S. Telesco. The Keegans lived near the water in Port Washington, NY, until their recent move to Bryn Mawr, PA. Dr. Keegan was the longtime Director of Radiology at New York University/Bellevue Hospital and also a member and president of its Medical Board. He served as Professor of Clinical Radiology at NYU School of Medicine and as Director of the Radiology Resident Training Program for NYU/Bellevue, and was made Professor Emeritus at NYU. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and a fellow in the American College of Radiology. Even in retirement, Dr. Keegan remained active as Co-Chairman of the New York County Health Services Review Organization/MedReview, which grew under his guidance from a small organization to one of the largest and most prominent of its kind in the nation. Colleagues recall his keen insight and wise counsel, always accompanied by a soft tone and warm smile. Dr. Keegan's passions were his family, music and medicine. He loved the water and enjoyed sailing and skiing. He was above all intellectually curious and a true Renaissance man. Dr. Keegan is survived by his wife Margaret; their three children and their spouses, Christopher and Debbie Keegan, Cara and John Fry and Matthew and Orsolya Keegan; and seven grandchildren.
