SHARON--Hon Ariel. The officers, Board of Directors, and staff of UJA-Federation of New York mourn with profound sadness the loss of Ariel Sharon, esteemed former prime minister of the State of Israel. Respected and admired for his historic leadership, Ariel Sharon shaped the destiny of the Jewish state over seven decades, serving his country as a bold military and political leader. A lifelong defender of the State of Israel, Sharon forged a vision -- and labored to actualize it -- of a secure Israel at peace with its neighbors. Sharon was also a deeply committed advocate of the Jewish people, mindful of the meaningful bonds between the State of Israel and the Jewish community throughout the world. His efforts to build bridges of mutual understanding and ingather endangered Jews were a testament to his devotion to Klal Yisrael. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Sharon family, to the people of Israel, and to all who mourn this great loss. Alisa R. Doctoroff, President Linda Mirels, Chair of the Board; John S. Ruskay, Executive Vice President and CEO
