WIGHTMAN--Arthur S., March 30, 1922 - January 13, 2013, renowned mathematical physicist and Princeton University Thomas D. Jones Professor Emeritus. He was best known for his pioneering and far-reaching research on the mathematical foundations of quantum field theory. John Wheeler was his PhD mentor. Wightman's students span the globe. He was a pivotal figure in the emergence of modern mathematical physics in the 1950's and 1960's.
