SCHINDEL--Barbara Ann. August 30, 1949-February 28, 2014. Barbara Schindel passed away peacefully after a short illness. She will be missed by people around the world who were touched by her caring ways, generous spirit and ever-active intellect. She had the heart of an explorer and Manhattan fed her insatiable curiosity. She traveled widely, especially by ocean liner, and she savored the pleasure of slow travel in high style with interesting shipmates. She will be laid to rest in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, surrounded by fascinating fellow passengers. Barbara graduated from the University of Illinois in 1971 and had a long career of public service, advancing to become Chief of Training and Development at IRS. She retired in 2007 with many achievements, awards and admiring colleagues. She then joined the 'Nexters', a circle of cherished retiree friends, who explored what's next together. Ms. Schindel is survived by her parents, Beulah and Arnold, her brother David and sister-in-law Kate Becker, and her devoted nieces Emily and Cassandra. Information about a memorial service and charitable contributions are posted on her Facebook page.
