LOWENFELD--Elena M., beloved wife of Andreas, mother of Julian and Marianna, grandmother of Mark, Diana, and Ana, died on April 15, just short of her 86th birthday. She was born and raised in Cuba and came to America after the Castro revolution. Always elegant, Elena threw herself with enthusiasm into whatever she did. She received her Master's degree in Music from City College and taught there for five years. Her Master's thesis on a little-known Spanish composer was published by the University of Michigan. Subsequently, she taught in the New York City public schools for 12 years in both English and Spanish. After retiring from the Board of Education, Elena became a docent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She also sang for 43 years with The Collegiate Chorale. Contributions may be made in her honor to The Collegiate Chorale, 115 E. 57 St., #1121, NY, NY 10022. A memorial will be held on Friday, April 18 at 11:30 am at Frank Campbell Chapel on 81st and Madison; burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY at 2:30 pm.
