HIRSCH--Elisabeth, PhD, nee Schiff, wife of the late Julius E. Hirsch died on February 24, 2014 in White Plains, NY at the age of 95. Born in Hungary on June 14, 1918, Dr. Hirsch immigrated to the United States via England after WWII. While living in London she was a student of Anna Freud where she began her life-long interest in early childhood education and child development. She earned higher degrees at the New School for Social Research and New York University. Her career in New York included teaching preschool at The Little Red Schoolhouse, followed by an appointment as professor of Early Childhood Education at the City College of New York. She retired from CCNY at the age of 70 but continued teaching as Professor Emeritus until she was 80. Dr. Hirsch is best known as the author of "The Block Book." She is survived by two daughters Susan and Naomi and a sister Martha Talmi living in Israel.
