FERKAUF--Eugene. The Yeshiva University family is profoundly grieved by the passing of its long time former Trustee, of the Yeshiva University Board of Trustees, who with his wife Estelle, was a YU Benefactor. In 1948 he revolutionized the retailing merchandizing industry after returning from the US Armed Forces after WWII, when he started selling discount luggage in Mid-Manhattan under the name of Korvettes. He was considered one of America's top 6 merchandisers of all time. In 1965 Yeshiva University honored him by renaming the Graduate School of Education as the Ferkauf Graduate School of Education which has since been renamed as the world renowned Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. He and his wife Estelle were honored at the 50th Anniversary of the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology in October 2007. A humble giant, Eugene Ferkauf was kind, generous and was a major philanthropist never seeking attention. Despite that, he appeared on the cover of Times magazine in connection with a major article on discount merchandising in 1962. Heartfelt condolences are extended to his wife and partner in mitzvot, Estelle, and their children Bobby (and Arthur) Kurzweil, a member of the Ferkauf Graduate School Board of Overseers, Amy (and Israel) Shapira, Lenore (and Robert) Bronstein, his sister, Lauretta Cruhlac, to the grandchildren, great- grandchildren and the entire family. May they be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Yeshiva University Richard M. Joel, President Norman Lamm, Chancellor
