LEAR--Evelyn. With deep sadness, The Juilliard School recognizes the death of distinguished alumna Evelyn Lear, one of the most admired and respected vocal artists of the twentieth century. With intelligence and artistry, she approached numerous roles and made them her own. She also became a recognized teacher, often in association with her beloved husband Thomas Stewart, a Juilliard graduate as well. We send our deepest condolences to her family. Joseph W. Polisi, President Ara Guzelimian, Provost and Dean Brian Zeger, Artistic Director of Juilliard's Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts
