SCHAEFER--Franklyn S. 92, Sands Point, NY. A glorious lifetime ending on October 11. Son of Beatrice and Benjamin Schaefer, adored husband for 62 years of Rosalind (Massar), loving father of Diane and Aram Ampagoumian, Philip Schaefer and Wendy (Weintraub), cherished grandfather of Alyssa and Gregory Schaefer. Deceased brother Stephen always in his heart, devoted uncle to Brenda Schaefer and Mark Thompson and children George and Gwen. Purdue University graduate, after four years of WW II Air Corps service, entered the family business, McPhilben Lighting Company. His vision and creativity was contagious, as he worked with designers, creating cast aluminum molds revolutionizing the industry. At 49, McPhilben was sold to Emerson Electric Company, Inc. His early retirement gave him time to explore many avenues including fishing, gardening, the outdoors, collecting Boehm porcelain birds, could fix anything, and like his mother enjoyed baking. He was an avid dog fancier, and with his wife, founded Wellspring Kennels, breeding and successfully showing German Shepherds. A generous and modest person needing little for himself, getting pleasure in giving, loyal to his family, friends, and employees.
