GRUNE--George. The Board of Governors, Trustees, staff and members of Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) wish to express their profound sorrow over the passing of Mr. George Grune, a great friend of Boys & Girls Clubs, and champion advocate for America's children. Mr. Grune's involvement with BGCA covers 31 years, including Board Chairman. Under Grune's leadership, the nonprofit appointed its first female President/CEO Roxanne Spillett. Grune strengthened the board and his personal conviction was an inspiration to all. He was also a staunch supporter of BGCA's premier academic and leadership recognition program - Youth of the Year. Grune served on various board committees including Executive, Nominating & Membership, and Human Resources & Compensation. He was presented the Herbert Hoover Humanitarian Award, BGCA's most coveted honor. Even after his retirement, Grune remained active, serving on the board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Jacksonville, FL. This tough, no-nonsense business leader will be sorely missed by the entire Boys & Girls Club family.
