SCHATZ--James L., The City College Fund Board of Directors mourns the loss of James L. Schatz, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 93. The Fund's former Executive Director and long-time board member served in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant, earning a Bronze Star for his bravery during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he developed a successful career in business as a stock trader and president of various companies. He was extremely active in the community: he served on the Woodmere-Hewlett branch of the Board of Education; was president of the board of the Peninsula Counseling Center, a mental health clinic; volunteering for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, etc. James Schatz was a man of great humility, honor, dignity, intelligence, wit, and warmth. He is survived by his wife, Elinor, his children William, Elizabeth, Thomas, and grandchildren. He will be missed by a great many.
