CARDIN--Marlene Bunn McGinnis. Died on November 21, 2013 in New York City after an almost 30 year battle with breast cancer. Marlene was a founder and president of Video Fashion Inc. and Fashion News Worldwide Inc., the first continuous international presentation of video programs devoted to the world of fashion. Her interviews with the fashion industry's legendary figures and the presentations of their aesthetic creations are unique. Marlene was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on June 7, 1943 as Yi-Lin Ho Bunn to a Chinese family that had emigrated from Canton, China. Her grandfather was a founder with Mahatma Gandhi, then a practicing attorney in Johannesburg, of one of the first great anti-colonialist human rights movements. Marlene left the racially oppressive apartheid South Africa for Tanzania and Paris before arriving at 20 years of age in New York with $100 and knowing no one. Marlene soon found employment with the United Nations and afterwards began a long association with the advertising genius George Lois and his firm Lois Holland Callaway. She went on to become the founder and creator of Video Fashion and also Video Ordnance Inc., the first popular visual attempt to bring to the general public an understanding of the international weapons industry with all its implications. Marlene was one of the longer survivors of breast cancer and her treatment at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York by Dr. Steven Gruenstein and his team of associates broke new ground in the treatment of breast cancer. Marlene leaves her brothers Dudley and William Bunn, a sister Sandra, and her mother June, all of Johannesburg, and her husband, Paul Cardin. A funeral Mass was held at St. Vincent Ferrer Church on November 25, 2013. A memorial service is planned.
