SUTTON--Percy. We mourn the loss of a dear friend, Percy, whose extraordinary vision and love of our great city made New York a better place for anyone who lives, works or visits here. A consummate gentleman with unforgettable grace and style, Percy Sutton was an exceptional leader in the worlds of business, politics and culture. His dedicated public service to this nation and the city he loved was expressed in hundreds of ways, large and small, including protecting the rights of the most vulnerable among us. Percy Sutton celebrated New York but never stopped working to make it better. In just one example: He helped make the New York City Marathon the world class race it is today. Percy approached Jack and Lew Rudin for sponsorship in 1976, on the occasion of the country's bicentennial celebration, with the idea of growing what was then a Manhattan race to include all five boroughs. Thanks to Percy Sutton, the New York City Marathon became a showcase of the richness of this city's cultures and the diversity of its people, and an unforgettable experience of New York by tens of thousands of grateful runners. They are among the millions of people whose lives have been touched by Percy Sutton. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Leatrice, and his family. Jack Rudin and the Rudin family
