ARMSTRONG--Raymond Joseph, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Westport, CT, on Thursday, February 21, after a 5-year battle with prostate cancer. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce McGuire Armstrong in 1951, his wife of 49 years Maureen Kiely Armstrong in 2003, as well as sisters Ann Helene Whelan, Hope Sharman, and Norma Lodge. He leaves behind his grieving children: James R. Armstrong and wife Gail, of Jacksonville FL, Terry Armstrong of Brighton, MA, Sean Armstrong of Westport, CT, Siobhan Armstrong of New York, NY, Dan Armstrong of Braintree, MA, and Kerry Armstrong Cheney and husband Andrew of Washington DC; three grandchildren: Charlee Armstrong, Alison Cheney, and Vivian Armstrong; his partner of ten years: Regina Brauer, also of Westport, CT; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Son of the late Anna Josephine and Joseph Raymond Armstrong, he was later raised by May and James Armstrong. Raymond was born on June 23, 1925 in Providence, RI. He was a graduate of Classical High School in Providence, RI (1942), Brown University, and the Harvard Business School (1953). His employers included Owens Corning, Starwood Corporation, Geneve, and Armstrong Shaw Company. Raymond was a man of tireless optimism and generosity who delighted in sharing his remarkable joy of spirit. A light has gone out in the lives of all who knew him. Friends and family may call at Shaughnessey-Banks Funeral Home in Fairfield, CT on Friday, March 1 from 5pm to 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke's Church in Westport CT on Saturday, March 2 at 11am, followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery.
