ROSEN--Seymour "Sy", on March 16, 2013. The League of American Orchestras mourns the passing of Seymour Rosen, former League executive director and innovator who managed the orchestras of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo, and Carnegie Hall. Sy was one of the first leaders to strengthen orchestras by professionalizing the manager's role. As Dean of Arizona State University's Herzberger School of Fine Arts he established a multidisciplinary Institute for Studies in the Arts. In 2004 the League awarded him its highest honor, the Gold Baton, "for serving music and orchestras with vision, passion, integrity, and courage." Our deepest condolences to his wife Bernice, daughter Judy, son Jesse, the League's current president and CEO, and their entire family. Lowell Noteboom, Chair
