FRIEDLANDER--Stanley, of Valley Stream, Long Island, aged 73. Passed away May 6th, 2014 from complications of Alzheimer's. Husband of the late Roberta Friedlander. Survived by his daughter, Emily Peck; two grandchildren, Noah and Avery; and four siblings: Gerald, Lawrence, Charles, and Susan Betsalel. Stanley earned his Bachelors degree from the City College of New York and his PhD from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University. He taught Mathematics at Queens College and Northwestern University. He taught for over 25 years at Bronx Community College where he served as chairman of the department of Mathematics. He authored many mathematics papers and a foundational college mathematics textbook. He selflessly devoted thousands of hours to the care of others in hospice. He was an accomplished runner, founder of the Valley Stream Running Club, and completed many marathons and ultra-marathons. His humor and kindness will be missed by all.
