Gary Grant Marco Island, FL
Gary G. Grant, 80, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, attended the University of Alberta, then transferred to the University of Washington in Seattle where he graduated with a degree in Commerce. It was during this time period that he played professional hockey with the Detroit Redwings organization.
Eventually Gary discovered Marco Island and was a permanent resident for the past 12 years. He was an avid sports fan and played softball on the Seniors Softball League of Marco Island. Also, Gary was a great theater enthusiast and enjoyed performing technical support duties for the Marco Players as well as serving on their Board of Directors. More recently, he was involved with the Island Theater Company, expanding his theatrical energies to acting for which he was awarded the 2012 Emerging Artist Award from the City of Marco Island at their Arts Afire event.
Gary was an active supporter of the United Church of Christ, Marco Island, and served on the Social Committee as well as ringing the 'big bells' in the Chancel Hand bell Choir.
He is survived by two sons, Russell and Rod, daughter, Lori; stepdaughter Shauna; as well as seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Gary's life will be held at United Church of Christ, Marco Island on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 5:30 p.m.
