Clarence John Bergsma


JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. - Clarence John Bergsma, 93, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012.

He was born in Saddle River, N.J. and earned an engineering degree from the University of Michigan before joining the U.S. military during WWII. After the war, he developed numerous patents while working for Wright Aeronautical and later Kearfott Corp. on highly classified projects including guidance systems for missiles and the Mercury space project. He spent his retirement years in New Bern.

He is survived by his daughters, Lois Mitchell of Florida, Nancy Anderson of New Jersey and Carolyn Hogan of Birmingham, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services have been held.
