Master Sgt. Rex William Furgason, U.S. Army (Ret) passed away on March 5, 2014. His family, and hopefully a grateful nation will cherish his memory.

He served our country in the U.S. Army for 28 years and he was dedicated to the DAV, American Legion and he served as past commander of the VFW Post No. 2514 in New Bern. Rex also dedicated his life to God, family and country. As a member of the 82nd Airborne and the 1st Special Forces group, he was a combat medic. He had the belief of "stand for something or you will fall for anything." He instilled in his family and friends it is not what you can do, it is how you do it. Rex is survived by his children, Doug Furgason and wife Bettye of New Bern; Sandra Mallard and husband Charles of Pollocksville; Jeff Furgason and wife Anna of Wilson; Patrick Furgason and wife Dena of Indiana; his grandchildren, Shannon, Jennifer, Christie, Jamie, Laura, Josh and wife Emily, Toni and husband Chris, Jackie and husband Jeff, Chuck and wife LeeAnn, Kyle, Tracey, Skyelynn and Patrick, Jr. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Shawn, Caroline, Tyler, Farryn, Tyler, Julia Rose, Nathan, Christopher, Corey, Rebecca, CJ, Nixon, Braxton, Christopher, Jacob and Dylan.

His family will surely miss him and the nation has lost a true warrior. Rest in peace Master Sgt., Dad, Pappa and go be with the Lord and Mom.
