GRIFTON - James Thomas "Tommy" Whaley, 72, formerly of Jefferson Drive, Kinston, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Dixon House in Grifton. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a forklift operator with Moen until his decline in health. Tommy was a member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW. He was preceded in death by his father, Duelin Whaley; his mother, Doris Gladson Whaley Dowdy; his wife, Dorothy W. Whaley and his step-daughter, Debra K. White.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014, at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Reverend Buddy "Lee" Johnson officiating.
Survivors include his step-daughter, Samia Smith and husband, Forrest of Tarboro; his step-sons, Buddy "Lee" Johnson and wife, Pam of Vanceboro and Zeb R. Johnson and wife, Bobbi of New Bern; his sisters, Margaret E. Stocks and Helen W. Wiggins and husband, Buck, all of Kinston; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank United Hospice and the staff of Dixon House for their dedication and support given to Tommy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Hospice of Farmville, 3723 West Wilson Street, Farmville, 27828.
