Roger Clayton Mallard, 87, of New Bern, NC, died March 9, 2013, at home with his family by his side.
Mr. Mallard served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946. He worked for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company from 1952 until his retirement in 1983. Subsequently he worked as the administrative assistant for the Sudan Temple until 1987. Mr. Mallard worked part time at Pollock-Best Funerals & Cremations from 1987 until 2012. In his leisure time, he enjoyed his family, golfing and Carolina basketball.
Mr. Mallard was a member and Past Master of St. John's Lodge No. 3 and was a Shriner. He was the Sudan Temple Treasurer and Treasurer Emeritus and served on the Shriner's Hospital Board of Directors in Greenville, South Carolina, from 1990 until 1998, where he was named an Emeritus member of the Board.
He was preceded in death by father, Levie C. Mallard; mother, Lettie N. Mallard; and sister, Glenmore M. Moore. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy Jones Mallard; son, R. Keith Mallard and wife Mary; son, S. Craig Mallard and wife Heather; three granddaughters who were his pride and joys, Ashton, Brett and Nicole Mallard. He is also survived by a brother, Randall Mallard and wife Margaret; and a sister, Gloria M. Gray and husband J.W.; and many beloved extended family members.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday morning at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charlene Guider officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park with Masonic rites and military honors.
