NEWARK: A funeral service for Byron C. "Boomer" Kreager, age 84, of Newark, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Shawn Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Brownsville Cemetery, Brownsville.
Mr. Kreager passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born June 15, 1928 in Brownsville, Ohio to the late Charles Bryon and Elise V. (Price) Kreager.
Byron was a graduate of The Ohio State University earning a Bachelor degree in Science and earned his Masters Degree in Education from Xavier University. He retired from Newark City Schools after 35 years of service. He also enjoyed golf, bowling and coaching basketball for his grandson as well as watching Ohio State sports.
He was an active member of Neal Avenue Methodist Church, member of F & AM Jackson Lodge #85 of Brownsville. He was a member of the BOPE-Elks Lodge #391 of Newark. He loved to challenge his family and individuals to always excel to do their best. He was a sponsor of Children in America.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah "Sue" (Rieman); three sons, Thomas C. (Sara) of Lewis Center, John C. (Karen) of Newark and Jeff S. (Laurie) of Newark; a daughter, Carrie S. Matteson of Newark; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Kreager and Jackie Bledsoe both of Brownsville; K-9 companions, Max and Sasha.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark, where F & AM Lodge #85 will have services at 6:45 pm.
