GRANVILLE: A funeral service celebrating the life of Charles William Watts, 86, of Granville will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 23, 2014 at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville with the Rev. Stephen J. Cramer as celebrant. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with full military honors rendered by American Legion Post #254, Johnstown.

Charles died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born June 2, 1928 in Muskingum County to the late Paul and Leona (Smith) Watts.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Charles served aboard the destroyers USS Hubbard and USS Noa during the Korean War. He shared a lifetime camaraderie with his shipmates and loved to travel to Navy reunions. Additionally, he was privileged to have had a Tour of Honor Experience by Honor Flight. The trade he learned in the Navy, led him to a career as a millwright. He worked for Rockwell many years during the 60's and later was employed through The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Dresden Local NO. 267, helping construct the towers at the Conesville Power Plant.

In addition to being a Reds fan and enjoying birds, Charles could be found "tinkering" around the home or in his shop. He was known for his attention to detail, meticulousness, and ability to manufacture or fix anything.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betty (Cartnal) Watts; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Nance Watts of Medina and Philip and Barbara Watts of Granville; grandchildren, Claire, Gregory, Brooke, and Brett.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Robert and sister, Ruth Marsh.

The family will receive friends, from 5 to 8 P.M. Sunday, June 22nd and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at
