Debra Susan Hayden

NEWARK: A Celebration of Life service for Debra Susan Hayden, 62, of Newark, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church, with Pastor Jeff Gill officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Debra passed away September 1, 2014, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born April 15, 1952, in Columbus, Georgia at Fort Benning, to the late Charles Clyde and Peggy Jean (Brunton) Lamb.

Debra graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1970, and received her BA in Christian Ed. from Defiance College and received her Masters of Divinity and Masters in Counseling from the Methodist Theological School of Ohio. She was ordained in 1986 to the Disciples of Christ denomination in Mt. Vernon. She served a number of churches throughout Ohio, and most recently was a member of Newark Central Christian Church and a member of the Newark Central Mission Team. She was a chaplain; firefighter/EMT; served as counselor and assistant director at Camp Christian in Magnetic Springs, Ohio; adjunct instructor for Defiance; director of the Samaritan Counseling Center in Zanesville, and instructed the Critical Incident Stress Management, and the Soul Repair Program (recovering from moral injury after war) at Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, Texas.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Franke Hayden; daughter, Heather (Jim) Craft of Bristol, Indiana; son, Michael Hayden of Newark; grandchildren, Gage, Anna, Alex, and Jake Craft; sister, Cheryl (Jim) Creighton of North Jackson, Ohio; brother, Dan (Jean Marie) Lamb of Austintown, Ohio; uncle, Bill (Barb) Brunton of Fort Myers, Florida, and ten nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her cousin, Terry Troup.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.
