NASHPORT: Dema (Romine) Thayer, 89, of Nashport, died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.
Dema was born on June 28, 1924 in Hanover Township to the late Dorr Merrill and Frances (Rector) Romine.
She graduated from Hanover High School and attended The Ohio State University. She proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy in 1944, during WWII as a pharmacist mate apprentice. Dema had a career as a dietician and a food service manager working at the old Fort Hayes Hotel in Columbus and at the dining facilities at The Ohio State University. Later in life, she was a postal worker in Columbus. In retirement, she loved the outdoors and gardening.
Dema is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. Thayer-CDR, USN Ret and Gail Thayer of Gulfport, MS; grandson, Franklin Dorr Thayer and his wife, Christina Borba of Boston, MA; step-grandchildren, Robyn Lori, Mark Andrew and Dale Aaron Louderback. She will also be deeply missed by her long-time companions and care-givers, Jack and Pam Grundy and their children, Lisa, Carl and Tina all of Nashport, OH, who called her grandma.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dema to Hanover Presbyterian Church, 732 N. Main St., Newark, Ohio 43055.
A Private memorial service will be held on the family farm.
