NEWARK: A funeral service for Donald Ray Day, 88, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Pastor Coley Mull officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Don, a retired maintenance mechanic for Koppers Asphalt Plant, passed away May 11, 2012, at The Inn At Sharonbrooke. He was born February 18, 1924, in Morgantown, WV, to the late Ben Franklin and Gladys (Burkhammer) Day.
He was a WWII Army Veteran, a member of Newark Christian Union Church and volunteered 27,417 hours at Licking Memorial Health Systems from 1988-2011.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Leora B. (Glover) Day, whom he married on September 4, 1943; son, Robert (Sharon) Day of South Shore, KY; daughters, Donna (David) Haas of Granville and Carol Cramer of Newark; brothers, David and Eldon Day both of Akron; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday two hours prior to the funeral at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.
