Edgar W. McCauley

NEWARK: Edgar W. McCauley, age 82, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2014 at the Ross Heart Hospital at The OSU Medical Center, Columbus. He was born June 24, 1932 in Elizabeth, West Virginia the son of Paul and Alice (Cain) McCauley. He served with the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sargent and crew chief on a C-47 during the Korean War. He received his Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering from Marietta College. After graduation he began his career in the oil industry with Dowell, a Div. of Dow Chemical Co. and later with Reliance Oil Company. He established his own company, Reliance Energy Co. Inc. in 1970, was a leader in the oil and gas industry and remained active until his death. He was also one of the owners of River Ranch, a Western Resort in Lake Wales, FL.

In addition to being an astute businessman, Ed was also a philanthropist. Many groups, organization and individuals were the recipients of his generosity and his mentoring. He was a member of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association, former Trustee of the Association and later named as Honorary Trustee for the Association. His knowledge of the oil and gas industry earned him the prestigious Penzoil's "Yellow Dog" award and was named "Producer of the Year" in 1991.

Ed together with his wife Phyllis were members of the Mound Builders Country Club and they both enjoyed traveling in their motor home especially to the state of New Mexico, the state Phyllis called home. Ed enjoyed sports, especially college football, hunting and golf. He was a member of the President's Club at The Ohio State University. He was a loving husband and father.

Ed is survived by his wife of 59 years Phyllis; daughter Eva D. (Eric Madinger) McCauley of Winter Haven, Florida; sisters Joanne (Bob) Battin of Greensboro, NC and Mary E. (Barry) Stark of Whipple, OH and his beloved Yorkie, BeeBee.

In addition to his parents, sister Faye Dawson and brother-in-law Jim Dawson preceded Ed in death.
