Edward D. Tussey

Newark: A Funeral Mass for Edward D. Tussey, 65, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 7, 2013 with Fr. Jonathan Wilson celebrating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Ed, a parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at his home with his family by his side on Sunday, February 2, 2013. He was born in Willard, Ohio on July 5, 1947 to Gladys (Hicks) Tussey of Willard, and the late Wayne Tussey.

Ed was a 1967 graduate of Utica High School and a United Sates Army Veteran. He served during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Upon his return home, Ed enrolled with the Ohio National Guard and graduated from the ONG Military Academy. He was retired from the Newark Air Force Base where he worked for many years as a supervisor of electronics and awarded several notable achievements. Following his retirement, Ed worked with Rockwell and Boeing. He was also a member of the Newark Elks Lodge.

As an avid outdoorsman, Ed enjoyed boating, fishing, and tending to the garden. He loved spending time with his grandsons and including them in these outdoor activities.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debora (Layton) Tussey, of the home; his son, Jason Tussey (Carrie Sedor) of Newark; his daughter Carmella Weiser (Jay Casto), of Thornville; his 5 grandchildren, Bryson, Grant, and Gavin Tussey, and Daylan and Boston Casto; his brothers and sister-in-law, Corwyn and Donna Tussey of St. Louisville, and Keith Tussey of Utica; his sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Richard Thomas of Plymouth, Oh; his mother-in-law, Josephine (Annarino) Layton of Newark; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard Layton, Marcia Riley, Cammie and Randy Sabo, Lynn Hall, Renata and Jud Kreager, Gerard Layton, George and Diane Layton, Peggy and Andy Gosnell, and Pam and Chris Nethers; special cousin, Peggy Komada; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Ed was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Richard E. Layton; and his niece Kayla Layton.

Friends and family may call from 3-5 and 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 378 East Main Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
