NEWARK: A funeral service for George Frederick Griffith, age 92, of Newark, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, with Pastor Tom Olson officiating. Military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
George passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). He was born December 16, 1920 in Thornville, Ohio to the late Walter S. and Edith (Faller) Griffith.
A veteran of the United States Army, George proudly served his country during World War II and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked in the trucking business and retired from B & L Motor Freight where he had been employed for over 30 years. George was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #85 in Newark. He loved going to stock car races, was known for being very punctual and enjoyed spending the holidays with the people he loved.
He is survived by his children, Michael Griffith, Greg (Jamie) Griffith, Jeremy Griffith, Jennifer (Mike) Bush and Stephanie Haynes; grandchildren, Gregory Griffith, Jr. and Zack Haynes; a sister, Carol Cormican; and special friends, Chet Shaw and John and Sandy Kozlosky, who are some of the best friends anyone could have.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.
