Jesse M. Woolard
HEATH: A funeral service celebrating the life of Jesse M. Woolard, age 96, of Heath, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Dr. Rick Rintamaa officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Jesse passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 at The Chapel Grove Inn, Heath. He was born on a farm August 5, 1917 in Newark, Ohio to the late Raymond and Minnie (Gutridge) Woolard.
Mr. Woolard, a Purple Heart recipient, proudly served in The United States Army for three years in the 14th Armored Division and the 68th Infanty Batallion Company C., where he drove a half-track and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Newark AMVETS, the Newark American Legion, Post #85, Disabled American Veterans and a member of F. & A.M. Crusader Masonic Lodge #720 for more than 60 years.
Jesse loved to fish, build doll houses and enjoyed making afghans. He was a member of Dawes Arboretum where he was also a dedicated long-time volunteer. He was a member of Central Christian Church, serving as Elder Emeritus in the church, missing very few Sundays through out his life. He was also very involved with the Licking County Jail Ministry.
He and his wife Marjorie loved to sew and made more than 100 afghans which were given to charitable organizations including the Salvation Army and New Beginnings. They were also named Senior Citizens of the Year for their contributions within Licking County. Jesse and his wife were inducted into the Central Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 2005 for their outstanding contributions in Licking County.
He is survived by a son, Robert M. (Patricia) Woolard of Bonney Lake, Washington; a daughter, Linda M. (Dave) Dudgeon of Newark; two step-sons, William D. (Nancy) McInturf of Heath and Richard A. (Sheila) McInturf of Oazark, Alabama; a step-daughter, Nancy Verber of Powell; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Woolard (2009) and first wife, Bonnie Woolard.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.

I have the greatest memories of Jess and Bonnie growing up as a neighbor. He was a wonderful person, and nice to us as kids growing up. I am sure he got a little tied of us as there were 7 of us. My prayers are with the family for the loss.
