NEWARK: A Mass celebrating the life of Livia T. Emde, 71, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, with Rev. G. Michael Gribble, as celebrant.
Livia passed away February 15, 2014, at the Arlington Care Center with her family at her side. She was born October 3, 1942, in Fiume, Italy, to the late Mario and Emilia (Martinelli) Host. The Host family immigrated through Ellis Island in 1950 and Livia eventually became a naturalized citizen of the United States. The family resided in Rossford, OH.
Livia graduated from The Ohio State University in 1965 and from Ashland University in 1992 with a Master's Degree in Education. She retired from Newark City Schools as a Speech Therapist and following retirement worked for the Heath City Schools. Livia belonged to several professional organizations such as Council of Exceptional Children, Ohio Speech and Hearing Association, Central Ohio Speech and Hearing Association, American Speech and Hearing Association, and OSSPEAC. Livia was a Master Gardener through the Ohio State University Extension Program and volunteered at the Midland Theatre.
She is survived by a daughter, Kristin (Bill) Crist of Newark; sons, Michael Emde of Newark and Mark (Jenni) Emde of Nashport, daughter-in-law, Mindi Emde of Newark, four grandchildren, Phoenix Emde, Jacob Crist, Reganne Emde and Kennadie Emde; brother, Robert (Mary) Host of Madison, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Marty (Emde) McCarthy (Jim) of South Bend, IN; and a nephew Brian McDonald of St. Louis, Missouri.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her niece, Jeanne Emde McDonald.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery.
