Mark Matesich

NEWARK: Funeral services for Mark Matesich, 51, of Newark, will be held at the REED EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 10, 2014 with the City of Newark Police Chaplain, Timothy Hansel, as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mark, a United States Army Veteran, died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Sunday, January 5, 2014. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio on February 20, 1962 to the late Stephen J. and Audrey Mae (Johnson) Matesich.

Mark, a 1980 graduate of Newark Catholic High School, attended the University of Dayton and received a degree in criminal justice from COTC. He worked as a patrolman with the City of Newark Police Department until his retirement in 2011.

As one who excelled in athletics, Mark enjoyed playing tennis and was an avid runner. He was also a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and the Cincinnati Reds.

Mark is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Michael and Barb Matesich of Bear Lake, Michigan, Karl Matesich of Newark, Mary and Bob Hill of Newark, and Martha Matesich of Granville; and his many nieces and nephews, Gavin (Erin) Matesich, Heather (David) Cousins, Erin Matesich, Kaitlin Matesich, Eric (Kerrie) Matesich, Lorrie (Brian) Beery, Steve Henry, Joe Henry, Mike Henry, Christopher Luzio, and Kyle Luzio.

In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Paul.

Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 4-7 P.M. Thursday, January 9, 2014, where an honor guard will be provided by the Newark Police Department.
